FAQ / Concerns
Sunscreen
What are two types of sunscreen?
There are two types of sunscreen: chemical and physical. Chemical sunscreens absorb UV light and neutralize it. Physical sunscreens reflect the UV light similar to a barrier or shield.
What type of sunscreen is best for sensitive skin?
A physical sunscreen is best for sensitive skin or post-procedure skin as it is less irritating and most effective. It also works immediately upon application.
What ingredients should I look for when choosing a physical sunscreen?
There are two physical sunscreen ingredients: Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide. (both approved by the FDA)
Is sunscreen necessary during the winter months?
Yes, it is important to use sunscreen all year long. Although the sun’s rays may not feel as warm during the winter months, UV rays continue to break down cells, resulting in skin damage and photo aging.
Brown Spots
How do I get rid of brown spots?
Using a sunscreen on a daily basis and adding a melanin inhibitor will help to reduce and prevent brown spots. There are also treatments such as BBL / Light Therapy that can assist in reducing unwanted brown spots.
What is the difference between brown spots and melasma?
Brown spots usually vary in size and can be found anywhere on the body. They are most common on the face, neck, hands, chest and shoulders due to sun exposure. Melasma generally looks more like a patch, usually the size of a dime or larger and generally found on the face.
What treatments are best for brown spots?
Phototherapy treatments such as IPL / BBL are most commonly used for treatment, management and prevention of brown spots on the face or body.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Broad Band Light (BBL)
What is the difference between IPL and BBL?
Both IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and BBL (Broad Band Light) use a broad spectrum of light to treat various skin issues; however, BBL utilizes specific filters to deliver light energy within a narrower range of wavelengths – offering more precise targeting for specific skin issues.
Acne
What causes acne?
Many factors may contribute to a breakout including hormones, genetics, environmental factors, stress, skincare and diet.
Do products with retinol or a retinoid help with acne?
Often times incorporating a retinoid into your skincare regimen can help exfoliate, deep clean pores and help to reduce and prevent acne flare ups. There are different types and strengths of retinoids, so be sure to consult a skincare professional for advice.
Skincare Regimen
What is a good basic skincare regimen?
Skincare regimens will vary from person to person depending on the individual skin type and any skin concerns. There are some basic key products that should be found in most if not all skincare regimens for morning and evening. These include cleanser, antioxidant, eye cream, moisturizer, sunscreen and an exfoliant in the evening to renew the skin. During a skincare consultation we will evaluate your individual skincare needs and advise you on a regimen most beneficial for you and your skin.
Is Hyaluronic Acid important in a skincare regimen?
Hyaluronic Acid is a moisture enhancer both helping your skin maintain its own moisture longer and help your moisturizer work more efficiently.
It is safe and beneficial for all skin types, especially dryer skin.
Loose Neck Skin
How can I tighten loose skin on my neck?
Loose skin along the jawline and on the neck is due to loss of volume and loss of elasticity. It can become apparent with the aging process or due to weight loss. Laser skin treatments, radio-frequency treatments or a combination of both can help reduce and prevent saggy skin in this area.
Chemical Peels
How do chemical peels benefit the skin?
Light to moderate chemical peels exfoliate the top layer of skin and stimulate cell turnover resulting in smoother, softer, supple skin. Done on a regular basis, chemical peels can help reduce the appearance of fine lines, brown spots, pore size and improve all-over texture and tone of the skin.
How often should chemical peels be done?
Light chemical peels can be done on a regular basis every four to six weeks. Deeper peels, depending on the chemical used, may be done less frequently every four to six months.
